About the role

One of three departments within Group Finance, Financial Planning and Decision Support is made up of two teams: Commercial Finance and Finance Business Partners. This role sits within the Commercial Finance team which supports CMS leadership by looking at ways to improve firm profitability. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and experienced individual who wishes to be part of a progressive, customer-centric team working closely with the business to provide financial expertise, support and challenge. Key components of the role (inter-alia) are as follows: -
Pricing and Pitch Support (50%)

- Proactively building strong relationships with Business Development colleagues across the firm to ensure oversight of pitching and tendering activities.

- Supporting Business Development leads and legal staff to develop fee structure options (pricing, discounts, commercial terms) to aid winning new work.

- Model the financial impact and viability of proposed pricing arrangements, evaluating options and assisting in Partner and Management presentations.

- Being the lead on litigation/conditional fee proposals, working with the Practice Group leader to manage exposure

- Provide post matter financial analysis and associated pricing and business insight to Partners, Pricing and Business Development teams as required.

- As directed, assist Fee Earners in the development of budgets monitoring against actual performance for matters, particularly complex litigation work.

- Assist in supporting stakeholders to maximise the value of client relationships (e.g. sales volume, pricing, discounts, annual fee rate increases, etc.)

- Working with the global pricing committee to address items escalated for resolution
Sector and Key Client Finance Analysis and Support (40%)
- Preparing regular financial analytics and commentary for key sectors and clients. Attendance at sector and client Partner meetings to provide financial leadership.

- In conjunction with Business Development leads, support Sector Heads and Client Relationship Partners as required to drive profitability and better decision making.

- Ensure that the integrity of the client and sector data on the firm’s practice management systems are robust, commercially sound and in line with policy. Working with colleagues (locally and remotely) to ensure that relevant data changes are carried out in a timely manner and effectively communicating the changes to the relevant parties
Training and Outreach (10%)

- Provide functional support for Firm's matter management/budgeting tool. Coach Partners and Associates in use of the tool.

- Provide advice in relation to improving matter financial performance.

- Supporting the FPDS agenda to educate Fee Earners and Partners in key commercial finance concepts (“prioritising profitability”)

About you

- ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified with a minimum of 3 years PQE, preferably from a big four accountancy firm or equivalent.
- 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Accounting or Finance.
- A minimum of 2 years pricing experience in a big four / global law firm with exposure to foreign currency issues.
- Proven project management experience.
- Demonstrable experience of development, preparation and delivery of bespoke training courses and workshops.
- Experience in pricing for conditional fee arrangements (and other risk based proposals)
- Experience with offshore resourcing, pricing and profitability models.
- Working proficiency of Apperio, SAP Business Objects, Elite Enterprise, Qlikview
- Experience of supporting global pricing committees to drive better decision making in accordance with governance policies
- Advanced Excel (including macro and visual basic)
- Strong commercial acumen with exceptional analysis and financial modelling skills
- Excellent soft skills with demonstrable experience of successfully influencing senior stakeholders
- A collaborative team-player who is transparent and has a straight-forward approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Emotionally resilient, and has strength of personality to ensure the perspective of ‘Finance’ is clearly communicated. The ability to remain calm and focussed under pressure.
