About the role

CMS is ranked by Legal Week in 2015 in the top 10 litigation firms by revenue and is consistently ranked in the Global Arbitration Review ‘GAR30’ of the world’s busiest international arbitration practices.
The CMS Infrastructure, Construction and Energy (“ICE”) Disputes Team has a recognised expertise and track record in those areas advising our clients in high value and complex litigations, arbitrations (both in the UK and internationally) and adjudications. Out with those dispute resolution processes, we are busy providing project advisory support - advising clients on claims as projects proceed. As trusted advisors to numerous UK and international companies, our disputes offering is highly rated both at home and abroad. From our Scottish offices, our team carries out work across the UK and internationally, providing the service that our clients need, where they need it.

We believe that delivering real value only happens when we work from a point of total client understanding and commitment. We call this philosophy ‘Your world first’ and it underpins everything we do. Our sector insight means we are immersed in the world our clients operate in, allowing our lawyers to make a real commercial difference for their clients.
Our culture is one of openness, honesty, warmth and growth. We offer an innovative approach to career progression and development, and an exceptional training programme interweaving technical, business and soft skills training.
- Supporting partners within the ICE Disputes team in providing first class professional service for clients.
- Working closely with the Projects, Energy and Real Estate groups within the firm, acting in major construction projects across the UK and internationally.
- We act for clients at all levels and entry points in the construction sector – including major institutional investors, public sector (government and local authorities, university bodies), contractors, insurers and all tiers of PPP contracts.
- Our expertise includes infrastructure, engineering, utilities, waste, transport, energy, renewables, healthcare and private developments.
- The team are encouraged to develop their own profile, as well as the firms, by speaking at energy and construction conferences as well as writing for construction journals and other marketing opportunities. This is indicative of their recognition by others in the market for expertise within this area.

About you

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven candidate to quickly gain experience and take on responsibility. The role will involve working closely with the partners as well as with our ICE Disputes team associates and trainees both in Scotland and further afield, alongside a wide range of other colleagues across the firm.
We are seeking a committed team player who is commercially aware and self-motivated, with five or more years post qualifying experience. You will have a sound background in advising clients on infrastructure, construction and/or energy disputes in different forums. Dual-qualification is an advantage but not essential.
You will be given plenty of opportunities to develop relationships with key clients and to develop your skills.
