Join the leading TMT law firm in Southeast Asia and work with clients who operate at the cutting edge of tech, media, telecoms and IP developments in the region.

About the role

Our market-leading, Tier 1 IP, Technology & Media practice in Singapore has an opportunity for a highly commercial, business-focused IP/TMT lawyer to join our team.
You’ll be working with clients who are at the cutting-edge of innovation and who are helping to shape the technology landscape in the region, ranging from fast-growth start-ups to the biggest players in the industry. We firmly believe that “every company is now a technology company” and this role represents an exciting opportunity to work with clients across sectors as part of the digital transformation that is reshaping business in the region.
Recent projects in the last year alone have spanned protection and commercialization of IP to advisory and transactional projects in the areas of fintech, ecommerce, healthcare and life sciences, IoT, consumer goods, and digital media.
This is a role focussed on Intellectual Property and TMT that will require experience in intellectual property, data protection and technology regulatory matters.
On the IP side, you will be advising a wide range of clients on the development, protection and exploitation of IP rights. This would include developing IP protection strategies for clients, handling contentious IP matters such as oppositions and infringements.
In relation to data protection and regulatory matters, you’ll be helping advise clients on the privacy compliance with laws in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region as well as to find business solutions to complex regulatory challenges at the forefront of developments in the region. In addition , you will advise on media and telecoms regulatory issues as well as advertising and digital media.
CMS is the sixth-largest law firm in the world and there will be ample opportunities to develop your career and network through structured training, business development and integration events with our global colleagues. Opportunities include attendance at the CMS Academy, CMS World Cup Event or the annual TMT conference.
You will be responsible for:
- A broad range of matters in the IP, Technology & Media space
- Developing close professional relationships with clients and delivering exceptional, commercially-minded client service
- Providing efficient professional support for partners and senior fee-earners
- Supporting the wider team in developing business and raising the profile of the firm by participating in events and campaigns and writing articles
- Being involved with external organizations in the IP & Technology space as well as participating in the firm’s various activities

 About you

The successful candidate will ideally be between two to four years post qualified in Singapore. Exceptional candidates outside of this range may be considered.
You must be passionate about IP and Technology and the developments reshaping businesses in the region. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience across the areas outlined above. You will have excellent analytical and drafting skills, along with a highly commercial approach and very good interpersonal skills. You will be able to work autonomously on lower-complexity matters (with support as appropriate) and assist partners and senior fee-earners on more complex, higher value matters. There will be a high degree of client contact and so experience and confidence in dealing directly with clients is essential. Strong IP expertise is essential with a good working knowledge of privacy, media and related matters.
