The role is to manage claims and complaints against the firm effectively, to assist with the firm's Professional Indemnity and Cyber insurance requirements, and to assist the wider risk and conflicts teams where appropriate. We would be looking for someone to join us on a four day a week basis.

About the role

Work with the firm’s PI & Claims Partner and, where appropriate with the Firm’s joint General Counsel and Head of Risk, to:
• handle claims and circumstances notified under CMNO LLP’s PI and Cyber policies, including discussion with the relevant partners and fee earners, determining whether or not a notification is appropriate and then liaising with insurers and brokers as appropriate to ensure that proper notification of claims and circumstances is made in compliance with the terms of the firm's insurance policies;
• determine the appropriate strategy for managing claims made or circumstances notified - in discussion with relevant partners, external solicitors (if instructed) and insurers - to ensure a satisfactory resolution from the point of view both of insurers and the firm, taking into account the firm's liability exposure and the client relationship;
• consider, from a risk management perspective, what lessons can be learnt from the firm’s claims experience and identify/assist to implement appropriate system and working practice improvements to reduce risk;
• conduct analysis of insurance notifications in order to identify trends and issues, report on these and ensure that key messages are fed back to practice areas appropriately in order to manage the firm's risk profile;
• handle complaints (whether direct to the firm, to our regulator, or to the Legal Ombudsman Service) pursuant to the firm's Complaints Procedure promptly and effectively so as to ensure that the firm complies with its professional obligations regarding complaints handling and that any complaints received are resolved with a satisfactory resolution from the point of view both of insurers and the firm;
• assist in the annual insurance renewal processes as appropriate.
• Keep abreast of both legal and market developments on PI and Cyber issues, attending networking events and seminars as appropriate in order to ensure that the firm is up to date in its thinking and approach on insurance matters.
• Conduct appropriate internal risk management training, either in conjunction with the firm’s PI & Claims Partner, insurers, brokers or alone to ensure that the culture of risk awareness and risk management existing within the firm is maintained and, where appropriate, strengthened.
• Where appropriate, to assist partners and fee earners with requests for copy papers in accordance with the Law Society’s guidance on File Ownership.
• Where appropriate, to assist the firm’s risk and conflicts teams.

About you

• 7 yrs/+ PQE, preferably including all of Solicitors’ PI defence, coverage and wording experience.
• Preferably experience at a large UK law firm in one or more of its PI & Claims, Risk, Compliance or Conflicts teams.
• Thorough understanding of the SRA Handbook 2011.
