We are seeking a Sheffield-based Trade Mark Paralegal to join our growing Northern team and work as part of our highly acclaimed UK IP practice.

About the role

The CMS trade mark team is busy and highly rated, with outstanding clients and a varied workload.  Paralegals are essential players in the team, with autonomy and significant scope to grow the role.  For the right candidate, there will be potential to progress to the role of trainee trade mark attorney.
This role would suit an ambitious individual who is looking to gain experience in trade marks.  Prior experience and/or legal qualifications are beneficial but not essential, but the right candidate will have a demonstrable passion for IP.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing trade mark matters including reviewing watch notices; filing new applications; drafting specifications; assisting with the preparation of clearance reports; liaising with foreign attorneys; handling records projects and checking registration certificates.
- Assisting with various contentious matters including trade mark litigation claims; trade mark opposition and cancellation actions.
- Profiling and summarising of documents.
- Assisting with preparation of evidence needed for Trade Mark Registry matters.
- Proof reading, copy checking, indexing, archiving.
- Undertaking legal research as and when required.
Our IP group is already one of the largest teams in Europe for patent and trade mark work. We have qualified trade mark and patent attorneys working alongside IP, litigation, corporate and commercial lawyers.  This role is Sheffield-based, but the successful candidate will also work closely with team members in London and Warsaw.  

About you

- Candidates should be motivated, enthusiastic and interested in developing their knowledge of IP law and trade mark prosecution.
- Able to demonstrate effective organisational, prioritisation and team working skills. The successful candidate will be working to tight deadlines and under pressure and will be required to maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to take responsibility for proactively managing a significant and varied volume of work to defined timescales.
- Strong academics – ideally a 2.1 at degree level.
- IT literacy and good typing speed and skills.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.  Flexible in attitude and approach to work.
